Born to USDF gold medalist grand prix dressage riders Jeff and Shereen Fuqua, it was only a matter of time before Kat's interest in riding surfaced. Ashley Lamers and In A Dream Take Top Honors in Small Regular Hunter Pony Championship at 2017 USEF Pony Finals

The 2017 USEF Pony Finals presented by Collecting Gaits Farm continued on Thursday with another champion unveiled. Ashley Lamers and In A Dream came away with the Small Regular Hunter Pony Championship. The pair garnered a total score of 1007.88, moving to the top from the 17th position following Thursday's final Over Fences phase.

Zone 4 Teams Shine in Gold at USHJA Children's and Adult Amateur Hunter South Regional Championships

Team 3 clinched the third and final medal for Zone 4 in the Children's Championship. Team 3 also was the youngest team at the Championship, with team members Kat Fuqua, 9, of Atlanta, Georgia; Alexandra Kozel, 15, of Pinecrest, Florida, and Campbell Key, 12, of Atlanta, Georgia. Fuqua rode Float on Equestrian LLC's High Noon 3E. Kozel showed Eclipse Equestrian's The Good Life, and Key rode her own Outside The Lines.

The $1,500 USHJA Pony Derby took place on Saturday and welcomed a dozen junior riders to the hunter arena. Kat Fuqua of Atlanta, Georgia dominated the competition with her own Captain America and Goldhill's Arresting Charm, taking the first and second places. She also placed fourth and tenth with her own Finesse RF and Chic in Time, respectively.

As I begin to ask nine year old Kat Fuqua a few questions that some other young riders would like to know about her, the first thing I notice is that she has whiskers and a black nose, like a cat. The next thing I notice is that while she is very poised and mature for her age, she looks like a regular nine year old kid in the her all American red, white and blue tee shirt. Kat's life in the show arena is far from regular.

Kat Fuqua and Small Suggestion Hit Their Stride in Animo Medium Pony Hunter

Kat Fuqua of Atlanta, GA, guided Small Suggestion, an entry owned by Iwasaki & Reilly, to win the championship of the Animo Medium Pony Hunter division. Throughout the winter circuit in Wellington, Fuqua has ridden the medium pony to several good placings; however, the tricolor ribbon had eluded them. The pair won the conformation class and the handy trip and placed sixth in an over fences round to clinch the championship title.

Earlier in the day, the beautiful Hollow Brook Wealth Management Grand Prix Field hosted the $2,500 Deeridge Pony Derby, where gusts of wind had little effect on the unflappable 7-year-old Welsh pony, Goldhill's Arresting Charm, who was ridden to victory by Kat Fuqua. Fuqua also claimed reserve honors aboard her second mount, Somekindawonderful.
